Graco Paint Sprayer Reviews- Case Study of Three of the Best

Arguably the best paint sprayers are made by Graco Inc.   Much like any other large leader in the home improvement industry, there are several popular tools that have made them the king.   This article will investigate Graco paint sprayer reviews on three different tools made from three users and compare and cover what customers liked the most.

About the Graco Reviews

Since we get several reviews a week we like to narrow down our field to those who provide the best information.  Often times it will take a few e-mails back and forth until we get the reviews how we like it.  I ask each customer to give their pros and cons however they wish and leave the reviews in their own words.   With that being said, we take time to do some common editing such as fixing punctuation, spelling errors, etc.

Graco Paint Sprayer Review – Review of the Graco Magnum X5

Customer:  Aaron Davidson

Paint Sprayer:  Graco Magnum X5

Reason for Purchase:  Novice painter who wanted something to paint quicker in his house.  Originally only planned to do a few bedrooms, but has since repainted his whole house.

First, take a look at some of the features.  This particular model offers a form fitted handle, which makes it easy for you to hold and use.  It is able to pump your paint directly

out of the paint can, which is very convenient.  Since it runs off of electricity, it has a ½ HP motor.  That means that you can plug it into your normal household outlet and use it right away.  It also has the following features:

  • 25 foot airless hose
  • Reverse tip
  • Hose works well when on ladder
  • Pump armor storage fluid
  • Operational DVD
  • Quick start guide
  • Power flush cleaning adapter

It really has a lot of features, and it is also easy to use!  That makes it the ideal choice for newbies and seasoned painters.

Using the Graco X5

I can’t complete my Graco X5 review without saying how impressed I was with the actually ease of using this tool right out of the box.   As someone who has painted less than 10 times total in my life, and always with a paint brush, I was pleased at how easy this sprayer was to use.   It flowed great and covered a great amount of area in a short time.  I believe the first bedroom I painted took less than an hour from loading the paint to clean up and even touching up a few spots that I messed up.

Next, we will consider the cost.  While it is definitely not one of the cheapest paint sprayers out there, it definitely has a great value for cost ratio.  It is priced right just under $300 at Amazon, but there is times that you can use promo codes or they lower the price depending on when you purchase the item.  I would   price shop a few other websites and look for promo codes to save as much money as possible.  Avoid paying high prices at Lowe’s or Menards as you will definitely over pay by roughly 20% of the cost.

Consumer Reviews

As someone who knows very little about paint sprayers in general, I quickly found several Graco paint sprayer reviews raving on the quality of these devices.   Graco seems to be comparable to Nike for shoes or Oakley sunglasses as one of the best names in the field.    I settled for the Graco X5 and invested just over $400 for everything (latex paint & primer included) I needed to complete my first paint job.

The Bottom Line

As a novice painter I feel that the learning curve on the Graco X5 is pretty easy to pick up and this sprayer is definitely user friendly.  The great thing I like about the Graco X5 is that it makes a task that I used to hate into something that is actually fun.   I find myself finding excuses to paint now and have even convinced one of my friends to buy a paint sprayer for his business after seeing how easy the Graco X5 worked.

Graco Paint Sprayer Review- Review of the Graco Project Painter Plus

Customer:  Amanda Kane

Paint Sprayer:   Graco Project Painter Plus

Reason for Purchase:  Amanda and her husband Jeff bought a “fixer-upper” home in a suburb of Miami, Florida.   While Jeff did most of the large projects, Amanda wanted to focus on interior design and painting.   After reviewing several painters, they decided on buying the Graco Project Plus Airless paint sprayer.

variety of types of painting jobs.  I bought this particular sprayer about 7 months ago, and I have had nothing but good experiences when using it.  If you are looking for an economical sprayer that is going to get the job done right, this is definitely a good one to choose.  Here you will find some great information about the product and why I love it so much.

My husband and I got a great price on a 2,500 square foot home by the beach and we wanted to do as much of the labor as possible to save money on fixing it.   After a few weeks of online research we decided on the Graco Project Plus sprayer.

First, let’s take a closer look at the features of the Graco Project Painter Plus.  It is a light duty sprayer that works well for most common paint applications.  It has a 2.5 gallon paint hopper with a disposable liner which makes cleaning up a breeze.  The piston pump is made up of hardened stainless steel, and it has a power plug light that helps to show you that it has a good power source.  Other features include:

  • 515 reversible tip
  • 25 foot paint hose
  • Quick start guide
  • Reverse-a-clean spray hose
  • 3/8 HP motor

It is basically a very powerful, lightweight machine.  As a petite woman I found that this was a great choice as I was able to set this product down in the middle of my room and use the hose to spray the whole area, no need for carrying around a heavy paint sprayer like some of the other models I considered.  I also was able to paint patio furniture and other small items around my house with ease.

After a few days of research I came to the conclusion that I had to get a Graco paint sprayer as they were commonly highly regarded from several different online publications.   After reading various Graco paint sprayer reviews I narrowed my choices down between the Graco X5 and the Graco Project Painter Plus.   I felt that the savings of $60 from the Project Painter Plus was the difference and I really wasn’t losing any of the great features.

Consumer Reviews

Amazon reviews and a few other websites sold me on the fact that the Graco Project Painter Plus was a great sprayer.   Most people love the fact that it offers complete coverage and saves them a lot of time.  It offers beautiful result and is very user friendly.  It gives an even coat and makes even novice painters feel like they are doing a great job once they see the results.

The Bottom Line

I would highly recommend the Graco Project Painter Plus for anyone who is looking to do some interior home improvement projects.  While I am not an expert in the painting field, I feel that this device makes painting easier even if you don’t have experience.

Graco Texture Sprayer RTX 1500 Review

Customer:   Jason Kuchar

Paint Sprayer:  Graco Texture Sprayer RTX 1500

Reason for Purchase:  Jason is the foreman for a large construction company headed out of Columbia, SC.   After securing a large contract to rebuild and repaint many of the buildings at the University of South Carolina, the company decided to invest in some commercial paint sprayers.

Graco Texture Sprayer RTX 1500 Review

As someone who has worked in the painting and construction field for over 10 years I had always dreamed of using a commercial paint sprayer such as the Graco Texture

One of the many historic buildings that the Graco RTX1500 will paint

Sprayer.   Last Fall our company landed a huge contract at USC and I vouched for us to get some commercial paint sprayers.  After a few days of talking to some fellow contractors, we decided on the Graco Texture RTX1500 along with several smaller models.

Initial Use

I have always been a fan of Graco sprayers; having used a few other smaller models over the years and couldn’t wait to get my hands on the Graco Texture Sprayer after we ordered it.   In the painting industry, the RTX1500 is one of the elite sprayers and it is only used by a handful of companies because of the high cost.

Once I got my hands on this sprayer it was everything I imagined and little more.   The power and ease of painting made something that can be mundane at times into an enjoyable experience.   Our first job was to repaint a building form the early 1900s and the RTX1500 got it done in no time.   In fact some of my other co-workers fight and argue over who gets to use the RTX1500 when I am off doing other jobs for our company.

The Graco texture sprayer has a lot of great features that you will want to consider.  These include:

  • High performance output
  • Automatic pressure unloader
  • Heavy duty wheeled frame
  • 100 psi material pressure

With all of these features and benefits, it is easy to see that this machine would operate with ease.  The good news is that it has a very easy to understand setup, with simple settings that most people can understand.  It can offer a wide range of end results, meaning you can spray a variety of different materials.

This is definitely not the sprayer that you would buy if you are just doing a few bathrooms or bedrooms around your house.   This is for heavy duty commercial use and priced to fit that.  I think we were able to get ours for just under $3,500 with tax and delivery in just under a week.

Like I previously stated, the Graco RTX Texture sprayer is something that almost every experienced painter loves using.   As a gun aficionado I compare using the Graco RTX similar to shooting an AR-15 for the first time at the range after you have only shot a pellet gun your whole life.  Power, speed and accuracy are well worth it, especially if you are in the painting industry.

The Bottom Line

If I were to put one paint sprayer on a pedestal the Graco RTX 1500 would be the one, hands down.  While it is not necessary for everyone, it is something I highly recommend if you are in the painting business or thinking about starting your own painting business.   This will whip through a majority of jobs in no time and is very easy to use if you have any experience with sprayers.
