Graco Truecoat 360vsp Reviews: Case Study from Two Owners

The following case study will be for the Graco Truecoat 360vsp review by two of our readers.  Because many readers of our site choose paint sprayers for various reasons, we like to give reviews from at least two different customers for our case studies.

Like our other Graco sprayer reviews,  we tend to pick one case study for a newbie or beginner painter and one for someone with painting experience, usually someone in the painting or construction industry that has experience using paint sprayers in the past.

A Word about Graco Paint Sprayers

Before we get into the details of the Graco Truecoat 360vsp reviews, I would like to take a minute to speak on Graco paint sprayers in general.  As someone who has been in

the painting business for years I have had tons of experience working with various Graco paint guns,   much like DeWalt for tools or Sherwin Williams for paint, Graco is by far the best overall company for paint sprayers as they make quality paint guns, along with excellent customer service.

A Quick Graco Truecoat 360vsp Paint Sprayer Review

While I myself typically work with a Graco X5 or X7, as these are more commercial paint sprayers, the Truecoat 360vsp is more of a DIY tool that I have seen more and more professional painters use on a daily basis.

For those looking for a quick overview, this is a paint sprayer that can be used on small to medium projects, as it needs to be refilled too often for large projects.  With that being said, I will leave it for the “experts” who have bought and used this model and their personal reviews.

Graco Truecoat 360vsp Review #1

Customer: Alan Joseph

Paint Sprayer:  Graco Truecoat 360vsp

Reason for Purchase:  Used for house flipping business

My name is Alan Joseph and I work as a real estate agent/ part-time house flipper in Phoenix, Arizona.  Over the last four years, my partners and I have purchased, renovated and flipped over 22 properties in Phoenix and local suburbs.

While we originally wanted a “hand-off” flipping business we soon came to found out that this was a true job and not just a side business.  Many of my weekends and nights consist of fixing up problems from various contractors, working with contractors and doing my own DYI as I find many problems are easier fixed on your own.

I bought the Graco Truecoat 360vsp as something that I could carry around with me on a regular basis and it has become really handy.   I chose this model after researching a few online and decided that the Graco X5 wasn’t really something I needed as I rarely do anything more that small paint jobs.   Here are my pros and cons on this paint sprayer.

Graco Truecoat 360vsp Pros

Great for quick paint jobs:   For my business I find that the Graco Truecoat is a great tool for quick and easy painting.   I never know when I will need this and this paint sprayer makes a great tool to have whenever I feel that something needs a quick painting.   I typically never spend more than 20-30 minutes total from loading my Truecoat to clean up.

Works well with primer:   Priming is something I often do for my some of my contractors as I feel that this saves them a ton of time painting the rest of my property.   One thing I have been doing on Sunday nights before the painters come in is priming as many walls as I can in an hour or so and it helps my painters finish the painting part of the job faster.

Cool Spray Tip:   One of my favorite features is the “Reverse-a-clean” spray tip that is on this sprayer.   This cool feature allows me to quickly fix any clogs with this sprayer and makes it so there are no issues with my spray time.   My time is very valuable to me and I feel that this tip separates this sprayer from some of the others I have used in the past.

360 Degree Orientation for hard to reach places:  Almost all paint sprayers work well on flat new drywall, but the 360 degree orientation that this sprayer has lets it work great in all the nooks and crannies that you will be painting.   This sprayer lets you not only spray evenly in corners and high spots, but lets you do so without any overspray or repainting necessary.

Graco TrueCoat 360vsp Cons

Refilling can be a pain:   This can be the most annoying part of the spray process is that refilling the bag system is not always the easiest thing to do.  Like I said previously, I mainly do small paint jobs and rarely paint more than one cup at a time.   When I do this is something that is a slight inconvenience but not the worst thing in the world.

Not for big jobs:    The refilling and spray power is not recommended for large jobs such as exterior painting of homes or large buildings.  While I think that this paint sprayer COULD do the job with enough time, I feel that the reloading and refilling of paint is something I wouldn’t recommend for a large commercial project.

Overall Review of the Graco Truecoat 360vsp

As what I like to call a “semi-professional” house flipper I can say that Graco Truecoat 360vsp is definitely an asset for someone in my line of work.   As a jack of all trades and master of none, I like the versatility that this Graco paint gun offers to me for my jobs.   I would recommend this to those looking for something for small-medium size paint jobs, but would not recommend this for those looking to complete large jobs,  Graco makes bigger and better models suited just for those commercial jobs.

Graco Truecoat 360vsp Review #2

Customer:  Erin Greer

Paint Sprayer:  Graco Truecoat 360vsp

Reason for Purchase:  Pawn shop store owners, used to paint various items

My name is Erin Greer and my husband and I run a small pawn shop in the Dallas, Texas area.  We decided to invest in the Graco Truecoat 360vsp paint sprayer as part of our business as we are always buying used items that need refurbished.

We originally started out just as a pawn shop specializing in tools, electronics, guns, and other small pawn items,   but have since bought out a location next door to our shop that we now use for furniture, large lawn equipment and many other random items.

We actually fell into the Graco Truecoat 360vsp as a pawn item and it was perhaps one of our best finds yet.   A local painter was moving back to his hometown in Kansas and we bought some of his painting supply items off of him.   After initially thinking about putting the Graco Truecoat VSP paint sprayer on our shelves we decided to use it to paint some dressers we got in and have kept it ever since.

As someone who works in the pawn business, having a paint sprayer seems like almost a necessity now, as it comes in handy several times a week for new items that we take in.  Here is what I like the best about this paint gun.

Pros of Graco Truecoat 360vsp

Paints about Anything:  The great thing about owning my own business is I never know what will come in the door on a given day.  If we can make a profit on it, we will probably buy it.   We have used the Graco Truecoat on dressers, chair, tractors, dining room sets, and refrigerators and just about anything that you can imagine that needs a fresh coat of paint.

Makes Painting Fun:  While my husband enjoys fixing things that come in to our shop, my job is to make these items look pretty.   Unlike paint brushes and rollers, using a paint sprayer is actually quite fun.  One of the things I love about the Graco paint sprayer is that you can be very creative with the paints you use and it sprays quickly and evenly.

Great Investment:  We are pretty atypical as far as being a “resale” or “pawn” shop, but the price on buying this product from a Lowe’s, Home Depot or even online makes sense as it quickly pays for itself.  In my business our goal is to double the price of items we purchase and using just a little paint makes this easy.   At the $250 price tag online, we were able to recoup the money from using this paint sprayer in just a few items that we repainted and resold.

Cons of Graco Truecoat360vsp

Sometimes too powerful:   One thing that may be considered a con for some is that this paint sprayer can almost be too much for smaller paint jobs.  While this is the perfect size for painting and dresser, tractor or other medium size items, it is almost overkill when repainting small items such as breadboxes, small chests and others.

Overall Review of the Graco Truecoat 360vsp

As a small business owner in the resale field, the Graco TrueCoat 360vsp is something that I can fully endorse.   While I have never done any large painting jobs, such as homes or a garage, if you are looking for a quality paint gun for furniture or other items, this is definitely a great paint gun.   For under $300, this sprayer is an excellent investment and something that can be very useful for business owners who paint frequently.
